What should I do if I miss a day of my habit?
Missing one day doesn't undo your habit. Here's exactly what to do — and what not to — so one miss doesn't turn into ten.
Missing one day does not break a habit. The rule is simple: never miss twice. Do the tiny version tomorrow, and don't try to 'make up' for the missed day.
What the research says
Phillippa Lally's UCL study found that a single missed day had no measurable effect on habit formation. Consistent misses slow it down. One miss doesn't.
What to do the next day
- Do the tiny version — one push-up, one page, one breath.
- Do it in the first two hours of the day.
- Mark it as done in your tracker.
- Don't promise 'double tomorrow'.
