What is a tiny habit?
A tiny habit is a version of your habit so small you can't say no. Here's why it works, and how to design one for every habit you're building.
A tiny habit is a version of your habit that takes under two minutes and requires almost zero effort. One push-up, one page, one breath. The point is not the volume — it's showing up.
Why tiny habits work
Behaviour designer BJ Fogg showed that motivation is unreliable but ability is controllable. Shrinking a habit until it takes almost no ability means you don't need motivation to do it. That's how consistency compounds.
How to design one
- Take your target habit and ask: 'What's the smallest possible version?'
- Make sure you could do it on your worst day, at your lowest energy.
- Attach it to an existing cue (see habit stacking).
- Do the tiny version by default. Do more only when you feel like it.
Habit of the Day has a built-in Tiny Habit toggle — completing the tiny version counts as a full check-in for your Consistency Score. That's why bad days don't tank your progress.
Turn ideas into a routine you actually keep.
Habit of the Day tracks consistency, not streaks — no guilt, no broken-streak spirals.
